Cathryn Stone is a vocalist, songwriter, composer, artist, and tutor who writes and performs a blend of folk, americana, and jazz.

Having grown up in Somerset, UK, Cathryn moved up to Brighton to study Music and Fine Art, and she stayed there for 16 years, with a break in the middle to travel, play and teach in South Africa. She became a well known face on the busking scene, and this was how she first met some of the local musicians who would help connect her with her first professional gigs. She began teaching whilst living in Brighton, and has taught a whole range of ages, abilities and styles. She gained a broad experience over the years, as a Rock School tutor, Piano, Guitar and Vocal teacher, a Workshop Leader in arts/music for children and young people with complex needs, and a Coach for songwriters. She organised and hosted Songwriter Showcase events, featuring several of her students alongside the most up and coming musicians in the area. She was promoter and editor of The Music Diary, a promotional magazine for live music in the South East. She was also a regular performer and events promoter for Brighton Festival Fringe.

Cathryn has an honours degree in Music with Visual Practice, a diploma in Jazz performance, and a wealth of knowledge from her many years of professional gigging and recording as a musician, vocalist and songwriter, which has seen her performing in many of the key venues and festivals across the UK and on BBC and local radio. Health challenges have made live performance problematic in recent years, but she is still very active as a songwriter, artist and composer, currently living back in Somerset. She is busy working on a new album, and series of photographs and composed music, due for release early next year. After a long break away from the studio, she’s excited and full of energy for new things to come.

“Effortless vocal clarity and pursuit of melody..a voice of such rare quality..”

“Cathryn’s confidence built a rapport with the audience straight away, her unique voice telling stories of restless traveling. The atmosphere was great, the venue packed to the rafters, and far too small for the fab talent oozing out of these two acts.”

 — Brighton Festival Fringe - 5 Star Award

"She not only writes fine songs, but has a voice to deliver them in a style that isn’t just a clone of something(body) you heard before, but one that has a depth and an edge that is so often missing. There’s something a bit special there...I heard it the first time I saw her."
